Fan Fiction Friday: Why Sara Became a Gossip Columnist

Sara Melas grew up tough because she knew she had no other choice.As a young girl, Sara enjoyed her mother’s company and the two spent every moment together. Her mom worked at a bookstore, and Sara would always read with her mom every chance she got. Unfortunately, things took a dark turn from here. At the age of 7, Sara’s mother was struck by a taxi cab on the way to work. This tragedy left the bulk of the parenting to be done by Sara’s father. While he was a good and honest man, he was left jaded after his wife’s death and worked too much to give Sara and her younger sister Maria the time and care they needed. As a result, Sara became Maria’s mother, giving her everything she would never have. While this helped her become mature, she never got a chance to be a kid and make mistakes on her own. She also could never show weakness.

Maria needed to have a strong woman figure in her life, and so that’s what Sara gave her. She worked hard in high school, knowing her dad wouldn’t have enough money to pay for her and Maria to go to college. She loved writing for the school paper, feeling truly at home here and escaping the responsibilities and pressures of her home. Sara went to college at NYU along with her friend Casey, hoping to finally pursue her dreams and live in the city full of action. She spent most of her time studying and again writing , so well that she gained an internship at The Standard gossip column. She loved her job, as it gave her a chance to go to parties, meet interesting people, and do all the things she never got todo while she was too busy studying or raising her sister.When her internship ended, Sara was offered a full time position, and Sara saw an opportunity to live the kind of life she always wanted:glamorous and successful. More importantly, it allowed her to live a guarded life, never allowing herself to get too close to anyone.
