Fan Fiction Friday: Hitch as an Insurance Claims Adjuster

[5 Years Before The Events of Hitch Started]

It was just like any other Monday for Alex. He strolled into his office where he worked as an insurance claims adjuster, poured himself a cup of coffee (1 cream, 10 packs of sugar), and sat down at his desk to pull up the latest case files he would have to work on. Alex was what you’d call a medium-achiever. He did his work fine, stayed out of trouble, and avoided getting forward mostly by giving his boss tips on his Fantasy Football line-ups. As Alex stared out the window, he almost seemed to be staring out into his future realizing the futility of each human’s meaningless existence. “We’re all just specks of dust in a universe full of galaxies and planets and cool shit like that,” he thought to himself…or so he thought. The entire conference room was stunned that he had just shared his inner monologue outloud in a meeting where they were reviewing Ken Johnson’s recent worker’s comp insurance claim due to an accident involving a meat grinder and his inner thighs.

Trying to put the embarrassing morning behind him, Alex got in his car (a Mazda Miata) and drove to Ken’s home on Long Island to discuss his recent claim. Alex was amazed at the state of disrepair Ken’s home was in. The living room carpet had several large holes from putting out cigarettes, multiple poorly cared for plants (mostly blue flag irises), and dozens of magazines ranging from Fashion Doll Quarterly to Girls and Corpses. When Hitch walked in, he was completely uninterested in Ken’s “incident” with the meat grinder and immediately asked “Everything okay?” Ken broke down – he was torn up because his ex, Karen, had left him for a Latin American pet store owner named Javier and had been depressed since he was unable to win her back. A light bulb went on. Not a metaphorical lightbulb, but a physical one in Ken’s backroom. Someone had broken in. Hitch quickly used an arm bar technique to subdue the would-be robber and waited until the cops came. Once that was taken care of, Alex told Ken he had just the idea for how to win back his ex. From there, Alex helped Ken stage an elaborate scheme to open a petstore around the corner and once they were ready for the grand opening, they were ready to invite Karen. When Alex asked for her contact information, Ken confessed that he had made her up. Alex’s eyes widened and he ran like hell to get out of there. Even though Ken was a sociopath (whose insurance claim was later denied), Alex realized his true passion was helping people find their soulmate. And thus, the seed was sown that would later bloom into the plant that would be Hitch’s Date Doctor services.

Long live Hitch!

For all of our lives, it’s about three things: work, work, and work! However, we must always be ready for what comes after work: retirement! It is never too early to think about this, and to get started, click here to gain insider knowledge into this complicated chapter life! For some, retirement isn’t just about relaxing, it is about picking a successor. If Hitch matches Will Smith’s real life age of 49, he must have these ideas in his head. I think Hitch would be best served to not pick A successor, but rather many! Here my out. By training multiple men and women, Hitch would be able to help out more people aspiring to find true love. I picture a staff of at most 8. While anonymity isn’t an issue anymore thanks to Sara’s article in The Standard, quality control is. Having too many people working for him would not allow for the small footprint. Hitch could carefully screen these candidates, ensuring that they are up to the task. Hitch could also train these individuals personally so that they would understand the best way to go about the job. At first, maybe Hitch would only have a couple of apprentices. This would allow him to continue working and also get the next generation started on spreading love. Hitch could then gradually fade away into a more administrative role, growing his empire and shooting Cupid’s arrow all across New York City!

Fan Fiction Friday: Charles & Casey

For a bit about Casey’s backstory, be sure to check out last week’s post about Casey’s encounter with Vance: Fan Fiction Friday: Vance and Casey

And now without further ado – this week’s Fan Fiction Friday….

The plans had all been laid. Charles Wellington had been carefully orchestrating a method to cast his net and snare the object his affection, Casey Sedgewick. Charles considered himself lucky, because Hitch had inside information. Hitch knew that Casey’s heart had recently been wounded by Vance Munson (a pig with whom Hitch refused to work). Charles and Hitch had to carefully take this into account. Was Casey open to the possibility that not all men are like Vance? For that matter, was Charles ready for life’s next chapter after he failed out of Rabbinical school? Neither Hitch nor Charles knew for sure, but they would be damned if they weren’t going to try to win Casey’s affections.

At Albert and Allegra’s wedding, Charles’s “grandmother” played her part perfectly, pretending to “choke” on a piece of “food”. Casey admirably performed the Heimlich maneuver. (Editor’s Note: Please visit this link for information on how you can save someone’s life if they are a choking victim: Heimlich Maneuver Education.) At his grandmother’s insistence, Charles asked Casey to dance. Charles had asked the DJ to play “I Keep Forgettin’” by Michael McDonald. For the entire song, Charles impressed Casey with his knowledge of how the song was later sampled in the 1994 gansta rap hit “Regulate” by Warren G (feat. Nate Dogg) and how Steve Lukather was the session guitarist on the song who would later find success recording the guitar parts for Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”.

Charles and Casey had a marvelous time the rest of the evening – dancing, eating, drinking, and bonding over their shared disappointment in the USA Men’s Basketball Team’s loss to the Soviet Union the 1972 Olympics. As the reception concluded, Casey was nervous about what to expect from Charles. She was all too certain he was just going to be another Vance who wanted to take her back into her hotel room, have his fun, and get out. Her fears appeared to be coming true when he said “I have an idea for something we could do tonight that doesn’t involve sleeping”. Her heart sank. He said “Follow me.” And they took a ride to a nearby mountain and hiked up to the peak in the dark. Charles had to carry Casey a few times after her heal snapped off on a rock while she was attempting to jump over a medium-sized stream. When they got to the top, they watched the sun rise together and promised they’d be together forever. From about 50 feet away, a cleverly camouflaged Alex and Sara looked on, smiled, and winked at each other.

Fan Fiction Friday: Vance and Casey

Casey Sedgewick was a small town girl living in the big city. Growing up with 3 sisters (all of whom her mother seemed to like more) she was taught to believe that being pretty and lady like were extremely important. This immense pressure always left feeling Casey like she wasn’t good enough.Unlike her best friend Sara Melas Casey was a wide-eyed dreamer though, and always expected the best from the world. Unfortunately, she did not have the best luck. Her innocence and desire to impress men led her to attract all the wrong types of guys, from meathead jocks to wannabe frat bros to douchey Wall Street men and everyone inbetween. While this did lead her to a brief fling with the “King of Supercross”Jeremy McGrath, it also led her to a lot of heartbreak, like when Jeremy broke up with her while performing a 720 Mcflip.

Which brings us to the day when Casey was shopping at Victoria’s Secret. She needed to pick up  some new “unmentionables” for when was entertaining “company” (not that it would be anytime soon!) While looking at a particular brazier she was approached by a man. He asked her what type of pajamas she thought he should get his mom for her birthday. Casey was skeptical as to why he’d be shopping at Victoria’s Secret for his mother, but Vance’s looks and charm removed all her doubt! After a little banter, he asked her if she’d like to go to dinner with him sometime, and gave her his number to call. At first, Casey didn’t call right away, but after awhile she decided to give love a chance and call her on her Nokia 1110, the most popular cellphone of 2005 with roughly 250 million sold.

They went to Scalinatella’s on E 61st street that Friday, and at dinner Vance was charming and sweet. He told her how he couldn’t taste food or see colors since he had met her, and that he was so happy she had called her. He appeared interested in her life, and asked a lot of questions. When dinner was over, he walked her home all the way to her apartment on 73rd and York, and asked if she’d like him to come up to make sure she was okay and “check under her bed for monsters”. Casey’s first reaction was to get offended, as she knew the only true monsters in her life were the unbridled rage and fear she felt in her heart every moment of every day as she remembered the United States men’s basketball team’s loss to the Soviet Union in the 1972 Olympics. But this time, she decided to give love a chance, and allowed him upstairs. After their “evening” “together”, Casey awoke confident she had met the man she would call “Marvin Berry” (a term of endearment for husband used in her family, not to be confused with the guitarist in “Back to the Future”) However, once she opened her eyes, she was crushed. Vance was quickly getting dressed, planning on sneaking out before she had woken up. When she asked why he was in such a hurry, he couldn’t muster more than a “I’ve got a thing.” Now, Casey had a “thing “to do too: fix her broken heart.

Fan Fiction Friday: Why Sara Became a Gossip Columnist

Sara Melas grew up tough because she knew she had no other choice. As a young girl, Sara enjoyed her mother’s company and the two spent every moment together. Her mom worked at a bookstore, and Sara would always read with her mom every chance she got. Unfortunately, things took a dark turn from here. At the age of 7, Sara’s mother was struck by a taxi cab on the way to work. This tragedy left the bulk of the parenting to be done by Sara’s father. While he was a good and honest man, he was left jaded after his wife’s death and worked too much to give Sara and her younger sister Maria the time and care they needed. As a result, Sara became Maria’s mother, giving her everything she would never have. While this helped her become mature, she never got a chance to be a kid and make mistakes on her own. She also could never show weakness.

Maria needed to have a strong woman figure in her life, and so that’s what Sara gave her. She worked hard in high school, knowing her dad wouldn’t have enough money to pay for her and Maria to go to college. She loved writing for the school paper, feeling truly at home here and escaping the responsibilities and pressures of her home. Sara went to college at NYU along with her friend Casey, hoping to finally pursue her dreams and live in the city full of action. She spent most of her time studying and again writing , so well that she gained an internship at The Standard gossip column. She loved her job, as it gave her a chance to go to parties, meet interesting people, and do all the things she never got todo while she was too busy studying or raising her sister. When her internship ended, Sara was offered a full time position, and Sara saw an opportunity to live the kind of life she always wanted:glamorous and successful. More importantly, it allowed her to live a guarded life, never allowing herself to get too close to anyone. Sara had felt heartbreak once and unfortunately, she had never given herself or anyone else a chance to heal that pain, until…
